A fun online course, drawing some of the most colourful and unique birds from around the world.

Learn to draw a selection of bird species from tanagers to toucans to hummingbirds and some you may not even have heard of before! This course will focus on colour! You will learn how to layer colour, draw Iridescence, and create feather textures. We will look at anatomy, gesture and observational drawing, working from beautiful reference photos provided in an online folder for you to print and viewable on screen. There will be a mix of drawing activities and longer studies. This is a fun class with the chance to explore different drawing techniques, working in coloured pencil, pastel pencil and soft pastel with demonstrations and tuition from artist and tutor Bethany Milam. Activities can be adapted to other media too!

Suitable for all abilities.

The lessons will last approximately two hours. There will be plenty of time to ask questions and I will make some time for individual feedback on your artwork at the end of the session.

Lessons are recorded and made available for participants to watch back for the duration of the course plus one month after. If you cannot attend live you can take part via recorded sessions and receive feedback on your artwork by email.

You will receive access to an online folder containing lesson resources, reference images, materials lists, resources and extra topic information. Feedback can be given during lesson time. You will also have access to a closed Facebook group to interact with other students.

What you will gain from the course:
• Explore colour, texture, tone, and pattern.
• Improve your observational drawing skills and learn a little bird anatomy to develop your drawings further.
• Practice drawing techniques in pastel and coloured pencil.
• Learn about some different bird species from across the world.
• Relax and focus on creativity.
• Have fun!
